Taunton's Complete Illustrated Guide to Turning
Taunton's Complete Illustrated Guide to Turning
Taunton's Complete Illustrated Guide to Turning features step-by-step descriptions for an abundance of wood turning techniques, including both spindle and faceplate methods. Over 900 color photos accompany detailed, hands-on instructions for turning wood, including how to use lathes, turning tools and materials, chucks, as well as sharpening tools.

Spindle turning - Spindle turning is a woodturning method refering to a piece of wood on a woodlathe that is being turned on its center axis between the headstock and tailstock of the lathe. The wood is generally removed by running a turning tool (See Woodturning for a list of woodturning tools) down the slope of the wood from a larger diameter in the wood to a smaller diameter.

Lathe faceplate - A faceplate is the basic workholding accessory for a wood or metal turning lathe. It is a circular metal (usually cast iron) plate which fixes to the end of the lathe spindle.

Turning - Turning, CNC turning, or manual turning is the process used to produce cylindrical components in a lathe.

Dates of Epoch-Making Events - Dates of Epoch-Making Events is an entry in The Nuttall Encyclopaedia listing the most important turning points in history from the viewpoint of the author, James Wood. Every historian could come up with a different list, and Wood's illustrates his own cultural prejudices, and of course his view from the early 20th century.
